91²Ö¿â cut the ribbon on the Clyde Kindell Farm mural in Tishomingo.

In March, eight mural options were created featuring Murray State’s campus landmarks: Clyde Kindell Farm, Chickasaw Hall, Haskell Lucas Hall, the water tower, the Centennial Clock and the campus sign. The Ardmore and Tishomingo campuses were also included. A poll was sent via email and social media for people to vote for their favorite design. The College partnered with Brooke Ratcliffe to paint a mural of the winning design.

“The mural tells a powerful story,â€ said Dr. Tim Faltyn, 91²Ö¿â President. “Since its founding, Murray State has been deeply connected to the land and the people who work it.â€

In the center of the mural stands the Clyde Kindell Farm, a symbol of Murray State College’s enduring agricultural heritage and of agriculture’s vital role in shaping southern Oklahoma. Long before modern facilities and advanced technologies existed, there was a simple yet powerful mission: to provide opportunity through education and to improve the lives of the people in southern Oklahoma.

“The image of the Clyde Kindell Farm reminds us of where 91²Ö¿â began,â€ said Regent Suzie Brewster, 91²Ö¿â Board of Regents. “For nearly 120 years, Murray State has remained true to that purpose. It has made a place for everyone to get involved and to thrive if they choose to.â€

The featured American flag reminds us that America has always been a nation where education, hard work and determination can change the course of a person’s life. That promise – the American Dream – has drawn generations to pursue something greater than themselves and to create opportunities for the next generation.

“Every day, 91²Ö¿â helps make that dream come true,â€ Faltyn said. “We hope this mural inspires everyone who sees it to take pride in our country, appreciate 91²Ö¿â’s legacy, and remember that the future is built by those willing to invest in the next generation.â€
